Classroom Corner Week of Dec. 15

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

This week, we will have no-

~DOL

This week in our classroom-

Health- We are wrapping up our lessons on depression. The students researched places someone who is suffering with depression could go for help. We also read about why some people are more depressed this time of year & strategies to deal with that depression. We also took a look at a depression screening quiz. Finally, & best of all, we wrote letters to parishioners in nursing homes to help cheer them up this holiday season!

Language Arts- The students have Christmas Around the World reports due on Tuesday. On Tuesday, they will share them in class. 

Reading- I will read the students my favorite Christmas story, Silver Packages, & they will write a mini essay based on the theme of the book. I will also share some of my other favorite Christmas stories!
I will also pass out the ook project for January in case anyone is feeling ambitious over break!

Social Studies- Ancient Egyptian projects will be due on Tuesday, January 6th, including some type of visual presentation.  Students are encouraged to work on those this week and/or over break. 

This week-
Monday- caroling at nursing homes
Wednesday- Go Green
Thursday- Christmas concert. 1:30 & 6:30
Friday- class party (students need to bring a new wrapped Christmas ornament for exchange)

Classroom Corner Week of Dec. 8th

Religion- We are learning about Adam & Eve & how their choices affect us as modern day Catholics. We are also reading one of my favorite stories- the story of King David.  Test over Chapter 11 on Friday. 

Also, the students need to memorize The Confiteor- they will recite it for me on Friday before Confessions. Their correct reciting is for a grade. 

Social Studies- We are still working on our research reports including our final copy & bibliography this week. We will also complete a paper on mummies on Tuesday, & state reports are due on Wed.

Language Arts- We are working on Christmas Around the World research papers. We will also have spelling this week. 

Reading- This week, I will read both classes one of my favorite Christmas stories- Silver Packages. The students will write an essay related to the book. 

Health- With the holidays quickly approaching, we will be discussing depression- signs, symptoms & what to do about it. We will finish this topic by writing to parishioners who are in a nursing home to send them Christmas cheer!!!

Classroom Corner Week of Dec. 1st

Religion - This week, we are learning about the Sacraments & sacramentals. We will also learn about the Sacraments at the Service of Communion- Holy Orders & Matrimony. Test on Friday & spelling words too. 

Social Studies - This morning, the students wrote their introductory paragraph for their research report which included a hypothesis. We will work on the scrap copy this week (using our outlines).  Scrap copies are due for editing on Friday. 

Also, state research projects are due Wed. Dec. 10th!!

Health - We are wrapping up our unit on nutrition by playing Jeopardy & having a guest speaker about food borne illness. Nutrition test on Friday!

Language - We will have spelling & DOL this week & next. We are playing parts of speech review games. We are also choosing countries to research Christmas traditions around the world!!

Reading - We are finishing our unit on poetry by identifying elements of poetry in some popular songs. We will play Jeopardy this week & take a test this week - 6th grade on Thursday & 5th grade on Friday!

This week-
A Christmas Carol field trip on Thursday!
Santa shop on Friday!  Dress down in Christmas colors & jeans!  Bring your shopping list, & don't forget Miss Proy!!! 😜
