Classroom Corner Week of January 26
Religion- We are reading a lot about King Solomon and his rule as king. We are also reading about disobedience & restoring our relationship with God. Test on Friday including spelling words.
Social Studies- We have started our unit on ancient China. This week, we read about China's geography and interpreted climographs.
Health- We are continuing to study anxiety and how it affects our health. Ask your 6th grader why it's important to be active when they are feeling stress, depression or anxiety.
Language arts- This week, both classes worked on their DOL, spelling words, & apostrophe use! Apostrophes are tricky, but we are working hard at getting better at using them correctly.
Reading- Both classes are continuing to read their novels, which both classes seem to be enjoying. Ask your student what their novel is about. January book projects & AR goals are due on FRIDAY!!
Don't forget to participate in all of our Catholic Schools Week activities!!!

Classroom Corner Week of Jan. 20
Religion- This week, we are working on research for Catholic Schools Week. Our topic is the country of Zimbabwe in Africa.
Social Studies- China will be our next topic of study. This week, the students will complete the vocab preview for Chapter 4. They will also be assigned a Hieroglyphics project that will be due Thursday, Feb. 5th.
Language Arts- We are working on apostrophe use. We will also start our Super Hero creative writing projects. No spelling this week!
Reading- Both classes are still working on their novels. AR goals & book projects are due next week!
Health- We are continuing to study anxiety and other mental disorders.
Wednesday is Go Green Day!!
School mass on Thursday!

Classroom Corner - Week of January 12
Religion- This week, we have Unit III review. The students have all week to complete the Unit III review, including class time on Tues. We will play Jeopardy on Wed. & Thurs. The test (including essays) is on Friday. They also have 5 review religion spelling words that will be tested on Friday.
Social Studies- We have our final 2 presentations this week. The students will have a study day on Tuesday, and then we will play Jeopardy on Wed. & Thurs. The test over the presentations is on Friday. My suggestion is that the students study a little each night for this test.
Health- This week, we are learning all about anxiety. The students will watch 2 videos and take notes. They will also learn why it's important to be physically active if they are feeling depressed or have stress or anxiety.
Language Arts- We will have DOL and spelling words this week. We have a period quiz on Tuesday. After that, we will start apostrophe rules. Lastly, we are wrapping up our study of Kwanzaa. We have been using the 7 principles of Kwanzaa to write some New Year's promises.
Reading- We are continuing to read our novels (5th grade- Maniac Magee & 6th grade- The Watsons Go to Birmingham). We are also doing vocab work & comprehension questions with each chapter.

Classroom Corner Week of Jan. 5th
Religion- This week, we are reading about the Book of Psalms. We will also work in groups to write our own psalms! Test on Friday over Chapter 12 & religion spelling words handed out today.
Social Studies- We worked very hard on finalizing our outlines & using citation machine on-line to do our bibliography for our ancient Egyptian research reports! this week, the students will be presenting their projects to their peers. The students will take notes on their classmates' presentations, & there will be a test next week over the presentations.
Health- Before break, we read about depression; this week, we will read about anxiety.
Language Arts- This week, we are back on our regular schedule with DOL & spelling. We are also starting our unit on punctuation- this week, we are studying the rules on period use. We are also reading each day about one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa, and using those to help us write some New Year's promises.
Reading- We are starting new novels in each grade level- 6th grade- The Warsons Go to Birmingham & 5th grade- Maniac Magee.
