Classroom Corner, Week of Sept. 2nd

This week in our classroom-

6th Grade-->
Religion- We are studying the history and background of The Bible including how old it is, how many books there are, what languages it was written in first, and what the word bible means.  Also, we are learning about which books are in the Old and New Testament, and we are practicing looking up passages in The Bible.  Jeopardy on Thursday (worth 10 bonus points on the test) and test on Friday!  Study each night!  On Friday, we will also have our mass participation quiz, including the five religion spelling words the students were given today.

This week's religion spelling words- Scripture, Hebrews, Testament, prophet & Gospels

Social Studies- This week, we are looking at ancient cave paintings and important people during pre-historic times.  We will also work on sequence reading in social studies, and we will complete a vocab preview for our first chapter.  (Chapter 1)  Hopefully, we will have the chance to create our own modern day cave paintings on Friday!

Language Arts- This week, we are working on getting back into the swing of DOL- Daily Oral Language.  We have also started spelling, and 3 sixth graders scored 100% on the pre-test, so they don't have spelling the rest of the week!  We will also work on writing a mystery descriptive essay on a place that we visited this summer, challenging our classmates to guess where we visited based on sensory clues.

Reading- We are starting our chapter book, Paint by Magic.  This week, we will complete a pre-write and vocab circles, and hopefully start actually reading the book!  It is a great time travel story!
