Classroom Corner- Week of Tuesday, Sept. 30th

6th Grade

Religion - This week, we are talking about the value of loyal friendships.  We are also reading about two Josephs- the New Testament Joseph (Jesus's Earth father) and the Old Testament Joseph.  Ask your student about his crazy story!  He faced so many challenges, and still showed fidelity towards God!  This week- essay due Friday and test on Friday (Chapter 4).

LOOKING AHEAD - Unit Test next week after Camp Christopher- Unit Review will be due on Friday, Oct. 10, the day we take the test.

Social Studies - We are starting Chapter 2.  Today, we started reading about the Fertile Crescent.  We will also learn all about Mesopotamia.  Ask your student what "Mesopotamia" means and 2 reasons why this was a good place to live.

Health - We are working so hard on our physical fitness!  Friday, we beat the 5th grade in a kickball game 15-5!  We encouraged one another and worked together as a team, all while working on getting our 60 minutes of activity each day!  The students should be keeping a fitness log of their physical activity for the next 6 days (Friday - Thursday).  Today, we completed a T25 video- the kids did awesome!  Tomorrow we will do some running activities outside (weather permitting).

Language Arts - This week, we will be focusing on mechanics on our DOL.  We have limited time in class due to testing and book project presentations.

Reading - The students will be presenting their book projects in a can this week.  They will also be assigned their new book projects for October- a tombstone project!  They need to choose a biography to read, and the biography has to be on someone who has passed away.  They also have reading homework due on Thursday that goes with their novel.  So far, the presentations have been awesome!
